I started writing on Substack just over a year ago, feeling quite unsure about whether it was a good idea. My main worry was that writing about my photography process might somehow diminish it. When writing about photos it’s easy to make what I think is a misstep of trying to explain them, rather than using them to explain yourself. Not having much experience with this kind of writing I felt I might do myself more harm than good here.
I’m happy to say I’ve found much of the opposite to be true, and I’m thankful for it. Doing my best to articulate myself in these newsletters has helped me develop my thoughts on photography, while making some meaningful connections and gleaning some insights along the way.
This last letter of 2024 is a simple one, with photos from an afternoon walk from my time here in San Diego. I want to end this year on a quiet note and a gentle reminder that, for me, photography is a simple joy.
Thank you to everyone who followed along this year, for sharing your thoughts and your stories. I’ll be back in Seoul and back at the grindstone next week.
I hope it’s a good year for all of you✌️
Cheers,
Chris.
Cheers to another firecracker-of-inspiration-and-prolifics 📸 year! 🫂
