I used to shoot a lot of instant film. Alongside my digital and film cameras, every trip I went on in my mid-20s I further tightened the knot in my left shoulder by slinging some kind of Polaroid or Instax as well. What I like about instant film is that I’ve never felt any pressure to make the images meaningful. They’ve always just been a simple expression of visual pleasure.
I fell out of the habit of making these images with any kind of regularity a few years ago as I focused on other aspects of photography. But as I write this I sit with four packs of instant film and two tickets to Japan, and the thought that it’d be fun to pick up the habit again. My wife and I are heading there for our first holiday in a little too long, and I’m excited to work on my shoulder-knot again.
Until then, here are a few from Russia, Japan, Hungary, Hong Kong and, of course, Seoul.
Cheers,
Chris
