It’s -7 degrees outside right now. I’ve spent the day in our little studio escaping the cold and working on Serial Music, a project making sense of all the photographs I’ve shot over the last two years. It’s the biggest project I’ve ever worked on, and I’m going to be sharing a lot more about it here over the coming months.
I’ve printed most of what I’ve shot over the last two years, and I’ve been playing with various ways of making pairs out of these prints. I’m always looking for some kind of relationship between them. Sometimes it’s as simple as similar colours, sometimes the connection is thematic, and sometimes the pair just feels right.
My end goal is to release 12 booklets of these pairs over the course of a year, one a month, starting in 2025. I’m giving myself the next year to work on them and put the project together. It’s a little daunting, but it’s also been a lot of fun already and it’s got my brain ticking. You can see a couple of the pairs I’ve made here.
I’m looking forward to letting you in on my process. Honestly, I’m making it up as I go along, but hopefully there’s something interesting in it for you. If you have any tips or questions, please leave a comment. I’d love to hear them:-)
Cheers!
Chris
This is very cool - looking forward to following this project and process and see how the photographs pair up. Your post-its are a lot neater and more interesting than ours by the way!
