Over the course of 2024 I’m putting together 12 photo booklets featuring pairs of images made here in Korea. I’ll release one a month from the start of 2025. This project is called Serial Music.
~~
I ended the last update on my photo project Serial Music by saying that I hadn’t really explained what got me started on it, but that I would in number #3. In fact, I made a whole video about how this project started, and how it’s coming together.
The video starts with this guy talking about how a couple years ago it felt like his photo practice was needing a change.
So he bought a 35mm camera and started walking around unfamiliar neighbourhoods.
The video introduces the visual metaphor of a plant that’s not growing any more.
We even get to see things from the plant’s point of view.
For a while he shot pretty broadly, to varying results.
But it seemed like there was something in the photos worth pursuing.
After a few years and about 3500 photos he started printing 4x6s…
…and sticking them up on this old mirror he’d found.
That’s when he noticed something:
And so for 2024 he’d be working on growing this project.
The video closes with a commitment to making 12 booklets of these images, ready to be released, one a month, from January 2025…
…and a slightly needy bit of rhetoric saying it’d be cool if you were along for the ride.
I hope you enjoy it. I’ll do my best to make sure everything that follows is useful for you.
Cheers,
Chris.
