I’ll be part of a group exhibition from October 12th at Floor_, a cool little gallery in a picturesque neighbourhood called Yeonhui-dong. It’s only a short bike ride away. The exhibition’s theme is Small but Smaller, and it’s looking to celebrate smallness in art, especially in contrast to the popularity of large-scale works. I’ve prepped and printed five Serial Music diptychs for the show. Considering how the project was built around making small prints, I think they fit the theme perfectly.
I rode over to my framer’s today, a shop called Picaso in an arts university neighbourhood called Hongdae.
The shop is run by a husband and wife team. The second time I ever went there the woman I usually talk with looked me over and confidently said in Korean:
“I remember you from before. You’re <insert generic white guy name> right?” (It was like Jeff or Charles or something.)
”Uh, no. My name’s Chris.”
”Oh. I thought it was Charles, but that must be someone else.”
”Do you think all white guys look the same?”
To be honest she was pretty taken aback by my quip, but she cracked up laughing, obviously not having expected it. I’ve had a really good rapport with them ever since.
Today they were playing a game that looks like pool but that I can’t quite figure out the rules for.
They assured me it’s a really good game.
Anyway, the prints are now with them and as soon as they’re ready I’ll deliver them to the gallery, probably early next month. If you’re reading this and living in another country, I’ll share some pictures from the show in a few weeks. If you’re here in Korea, I’d love to see you at the opening! Let’s chat on Instagram to make sure our times line up.
Cheers,
Chris
That game that looks like pool but isn't looks so interesting - no pockets! Congrats on the group show. Looking forward to seeing the framed prints...
