I'm glad you had a good visit! Reading this gave me a chance to think about the United States in a more positive light than I have in some time, so I appreciate that.

As for me, it's the dog in the van.

Cheers Travis, glad I could share some affection for the US with you.

I love the train photo but they are all really good photos. I grew up mostly in the U.S. but my mother's family is from Colombia. I spent 5-6 weeks every summer there, so it's my second home.

Thanks Juliette~ It's great that you got to spend so much time in Colombia. Would love to see it some day!

Love seeing your view of the west coast! Hard to pick a favorite - maybe the tied curtain on the train, or that intense dog & skateboard combo in the blue van. Interesting question, whether another country has influenced me... having grown up in a very diverse corner of the USA, there were lots of influences from Japan, Korea, India through friends and exposure to these cultures too. And probably a lot of England influence in my 20's, even before I met Tom. Interesting to think about!

Cheers Diana, you happened to pick two of the ones I was most happy with. America is so diverse it's easy to see how you'd pick up influences locally rather than through the TV like I did. Sounds like you knew something about Korea before I ever did!

Yeah there were lots of Korean kids at my high school, we had Korean neighbors too because Samsung owned the house and would rotate through their executives as needed (their US headquarters is in New Jersey). I was lucky to get schooled on the joys of soondubu jjigae as a teenager from a friend and have been obsessed with Korean food ever since. When I visited Korea in 2005 I knew how to order and how to eat Korean food and had some incredible meals. That trip is a whole other story! But I will say that being in Korea at that time seemed really familiar, a little bit like my corner of New Jersey to be honest! :)

Wow that’s all great to hear! Ha, you’re the first person I’ve heard describing a trip to Korea as a familiar experience. I had soondubu Jjigae one of my first nights here and never looked back!
