That's some undertaking! Looks great and it's cool to follow along with your progress this way :) I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions on paper. I do prefer matte paper over (too) glossy ones (I hate to have to tilt paper because shine is getting in the way of looking at the image on the paper ;))
Cheers for the suggestion Ronald! I prefer a matte finish too, especially when I know the paper will be handled. Though the colour on luster always looks great for single prints!
Yeah it's finding that right balance I guess. Good that you can print yourself, I guess that's much more convenient (and cost-saving if you don't count the purchase of the printer) than to go through a print shop.
From what I'm seeing I agree the calligraphy paper is the best choice so far. Before I make any suggestions, what are your criteria? Gsm preferences? Thoughts on longevity? Archival concerns or not really? Loving the shots of the contact sheets though, I'm a sucker for prints or contact sheets laid out in a nice studio!
The calligraphy would work for images, but unfortunately not for text. I could possibly find a work around but I'll keep trying paper options in the meantime.
Thank you for the thoughtful questions! I'm aiming for 150ish GSM (though could happily go lighter to help with folding).
I'm not worried about longevity as I want these to be kept relatively cheap to purchase once they're done and I may use higher quality photo paper for the cover.
I'll stick to archival for the prints I make in support of this project:-) Not necessary for the booklets themselves.
The toughest criterion is that the paper needs to be double-sided.
I visited a great print shop this week and got some advice from them, so I'm currently waiting on a paper delivery they recommended. But I'm looking to try as many papers as is reasonable, so please send any suggestions if you have them!
