I’ve lived unfashionably late to the trends pretty much my whole life. When all my friends started listening to hip hop, I was discovering the Misfits. The soundtrack to my skinny jeans years was the baggy swish of everyone else’s size 38 Dickies. I shot Nikon pre-Z series.1
It makes sense that things would be the same here on Substack.
I watched quietly for a month as everybody laid out their plans for 2025, and now that we’re more than a month into the year, I might as well do the same.
My goal for this year is to dedicate some real time to making videos about everything that went into my photo project Serial Music. I started on YouTube and here on Substack for a few reasons, but one of the main ones is a desire to make something useful for people like me. We’ve all experienced needing advice and insight about the challenges we face with our photography, but I often struggled to find information that was thoughtful and, I guess, that meant something to me. When you can’t find what you’re looking for, I truly believe it’s a call to make it yourself.
So this year I’m aiming (🤞) to make a video each month that will coincide with the release of each new issue of Serial Music. I want to share on quite a variety of subjects - inspiration, the value of DIY, costs in terms of both time and money. My hope is that by the end of it, it’ll help bring those of you that watch just that much closer to realizing your own photo projects.
The first video is live, explaining all of this in as visual a way as I can. I hope you’re into it!
I also want to ask you reading this, what challenges have you faced in bringing your own photo projects to life? I’ll do my best to work the responses I get from this question into the videos I make. We can figure it out together.
I have one other video goal this year - make something purely for the fun of it.
Along with each issue of Serial Music, I’m releasing a limited edition pair of turntable slipmats. There’ll be a new pair each month. I figured what could be better to ring in the release of those than some actual serial music? A couple months ago I dropped by my friend Matt’s bar Hard Material in our little neighbourhood, and proposed working on a project together. Matt’s a DJ, and between the two of us we have a decent collection of Korean vinyl. So, to celebrate each release of this entirely Korean photo project, I’ll be filming Matt mixing two Korean tracks together and releasing one of these mixes each month too.

This little project is called TWO TRACKS - and the first one is live for your listening and viewing pleasure. If you’re interested in some Korean music that is a far shout from KPOP, this is the place for you.
You can see these videos, and all the others I’ve made, right here.
Cheers,
Chris ✌️🇰🇷
Maybe it’s just a matter of where I live, but I’ve watched my credibility crumble in real-time as I pulled out my old DSLR.
